Heart of a Knight
I meant to post this back on 3 December when the story was fresh. I was hoping more information would become available. However, it seems that it was only reported at the recent RSNA meeting and that’s it. I’m very disappointed that they didn’t show any CT or MRI images.
A group of imaging experts were called when five heart shaped urns were found during an excavation of the basement of the Convent of the Jacobins in Rennes, France. Several grave sites dating back to the late 16th or early 17th century were unearthed. The initial CT and MRI images were good but not diagnostic. The embalming fluid likely has alcohol which would cause chemical shift artifacts (read my MRI post to learn more). The CT would not have good soft tissue contrast and therefore would not have been helpful by itself. After removing the embalming fluid and “re-hydrating” the hearts, one was found to be healthy, three had signs of plaque on the coronary arteries and atherosclerosis and the fifth was poorly preserved.
I was also considering saving this until St. Valentine’s day as they mentioned that one of the male hearts was buried with a female, likely his wife. You can read the whole news blurb here: https://goo.gl/gt51RS

Chad Haney: I’m very impressed about your Medical Imagin post. I am wondering if you can post a heart MI of a heart condition. I was born with a Byscupid aortic valve syndrome, and a hearth murmur. To see how my heart would like to. I’m 56 years old and my condition has worsen. My Cardiologists told me that, I am suffering from arterial stenosis. I was also told that , I need surgery to replace my heart valves. But I had a complication. My lungs arteries are worst than the ones from my heart. All my arteries are worn out due to my heart condition. I don’t take any medicines for my heart. I was long time ago taking Nitroglycerin. I am very tired all day long. Every time I tried to do my house chores , I feel like passing out. My heart beats so fast that, I feels my heart is going to explotes. I will like to ask you if is it a Cardiology community on line. Thank you very much.
fire eyes, I’m not a physician and my area of research is cancer not cardiology. I don’t have access to human heart image data and I don’t think it would help you. You probably really need to be on medication. Sorry I don’t know how to help you.
Iam not a dr.. but my son goes to Riley hospital of Indiana very best at least pro claimed my son also had aoritic stenosis soon will have to have valve replacement, sorry for your health to
Chad Haney Thank you.
Tonya Plunkett I wish your son will successfully recuperate from his surgery . God will be supervising his recovery.
Sonia Gupta, I understand you are trying to help but that is terrible advice. Any disease or ailment shouldn’t be diagnosed or treated using advice from the Internet, especially cardiovascular disease.
I’ve seen so many people give dangerously ignorant medical advice.
+Chad Haney , i am so sorry that i had done that. That’s why i removed my comment. Thank you very much for your advice. Now, i will take care not to do that again. I am extremely sorry. I was a fool to think like that. I am grateful for your comment. Greetings and Blessings to you !
It’s not a big deal, Sonia Gupta.
Chad Haney , Thank you again and Good day to you !
