2nd clue image for #ISeeTheWorldWithScience , Round 3
This round of #ISeeTheWorldWithScience is dedicated to Allison Sekuler and Mark Bruce for their birthdays.
Candy Gray guessed In part *humorous + a type of *macaroni. That sums up the first image but that’s just part of the picture. I hope you can see that the specimen is an arm and the first image was the elbow of the arm. The second image was a bit tricky as it was a slice of the arm. In radiology (medical imaging) you get used to looking at 2D images (slices) and relating them to 3D objects. The 2D slice from the 2nd image is green in the 3D rendered image below. I also included a slice through the fingers. It makes sense that you would see five circle-like shapes. I also included the same slice, in green, on the 3D rendered image. There are two 3D rendered images of the whole arm.
So the last part is to guess the species. I think I mentioned on one of these threads that the specimen is literally roadkill. Your other clue is that the name of the species is derived from the word for “white dog” in the native language where the first one was named.
If you want to guess what the species is, tell me something interesting about it but don’t say what your guess is. So please don’t blurt out the answer. In the past it has been fun to try to decipher the guesses as they were cleverly written by some. In fact, Johnathan Chung often stumps me with his guesses 🙂
If you don’t want to guess, you can tell me what science the image makes you think of.

Letha McGarity send me a PM with your guess because I don’t know if you are thinking of a colloquial name.
Might this be a small’ish, rather unwanted animal?
^o^
Knut Torgersen it’s all relative. Some people like them, most people don’t. They are small relative to my dog.
I will keep looking…but have to say im stumped on this. :/
Letha McGarity figured out that it’s the arm of a dead opossum.
OMG!! Really?? I was thinking a racoon. Those claws.. lol 🙂
Lol!! Smart girl 🙂 🙂
We don’t call them that here.
Just opossum or possum because we have too many real rats.
I believed it to be a rat…
Letha McGarityI figured that made sense for Arkansas.
Johnny Longoria the answer is here.
i hear you
