Mummy bird CT – update
Not really an update but more pictures from the mummy bird project. Here’s the previous update, which also links to the original post. http://goo.gl/VnJCT
JP Brown form The Field Museum did the segmentation and rendering of this mummy bird using Volume Graphics VGStudio Max 2.2. (http://fieldmuseum.org/users/jp-brown). The mummy bird below was too big for me to image in the microCT but was imaged with a clinical CT at the University of Chicago. You can see the clinical and microCT scanners in the news letter here http://oi.uchicago.edu/pdf/nn214.pdf (Page 26-28).
If you’re in Chicago in October, check out the exhibit at the Oriental Institute.

Amazing project, it will be very nice in case of ibis mummies, cats and first time to hear about mummified rats http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/9/40/47725/Heritage/Ancient-Egypt/Returned-rare-sarcophagus-of-mummified-rat-to-be-d.aspx, Please, i would like to know more about the microscanner itself, thanks so much for sharing.
rasha kamel Thanks. The PDF linked above has a picture of the clinical scanner used for this mummy as well as the microCT that was used on the kestrel posted earlier. Some of the details about CT are in my previous post here. http://goo.gl/MqoR7
